The Irish citizens of Melbourne presented an address to the Earl of Aberdeen, and an album of "Victorian views to the Countess, at the Town Hall today. The Mayor of Melbourne presided. In 'replying to the address, Lord Aberdeen declared his steadfast adherence to Home Rule for Ireland, and his conviction that it would ensure the peace of Ireland and the maintenance of the integrity of the Empire. Lord Aberdeen left for Tasmania this evening. GENERAL SCHAW AND THE VICTORIAN DEFENCES. Melbourne, April 2. The Ministry have invited General Schaw, -who is at present in New Zealand, to inspect the Victorian defences. MYERS AND GEORGE. Sydney, April 4. The second of the saries of three contests between the pedestrians Myers and George took place on the Association Ground to-day. The race was for 1500 yards, and was won by Myers by half a yard. Time, 3mins. 46 2-5 th sees. THE CONVICT HOLT. Sydney, April 4. Efforts are being made to liberate : Holt, the bank manager who was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for embezzlement. It is understood that the PostmasterGeneral is favourable to a. reduction being made by New South Wales and Victoria on the Press messages to and from New Zealand, so as to assimilate the charges by the three colonies interested. MELBOURNE iETTING CASE. Melbourne, April 4. Lord Deerhurst, who recently resigned his appointment of A.D.O. to Sir Henry Loch, has given notice that he will not appear in the appeal case Deerhurst v. Sutton. Inconsequence of this Button's appeal will be allowed to-morrow. QUEENSLAND REVENUE. Brisbane, AjJril 4.
