PROFESSOR BLACK ON SCHOOLS OF MINES.

Processor Black lectured to a large audience, and expressed great satisfaction at the efficiency shown at various Schools of Mines on the Coasr, which were far be yond his expectation*. The members displayed such earnestness to attain proficiency that he anticipated great results. The chemistry classes in Westland were a long way ahead of Otago. He eulogised the miners. Professor Black assayed three Rttmples from Bangitoto. The first one gave 6oz 7dwt gold and 10oz 13dwt silver to the ton ; the second, 10oz bullion ; the third (quartz), 330z gold. Mr. Bevan, M.H.R., and Mr. Macfarlane, R.M., moved and seconded a vote of thanks to Professor Black, and bore testimony to the value of the work done by him.
