THE GERMAN ELECTIONS.
VICTORY OF THE GOVERNMENT. THE REICHSTAG CONVENED. [press ASSOCIATION.] ( London, February 23. The returns of the German elections show the following results : — 43 Tories, 16 Imperialists, 83 National Liberals, four Progressists, 47 Centre, six Socialists, 15 Alsatians, and four Poles. There will have to be 42 second ballots. The Socialist vote in Berlin reached 95,000. Herr Binningsen and Dr. Windthorst secured • their re-election, but Herren Leibtneibt and Krupp toere defeated. The opponents of the Army Bill, or antiseptenniates, as they are now known as, lost 30 seats. They admit that the Bill is certain of a majority in its favour, and it is expected the Reichstag will be convened regardless of the second ballots. The patriotism of the Alsatians has caused a tremendous sensation in Paris. The Emperor William has expressed himself satisfied with the favourable results of the elections to the German Reichstag.
