NEW SOUTH WALES ELECTIONS. Sydney, February 3. Nominations for the Sydney. electorates closed at'norm to-day. For East Sydney four freetrade candidates, and one protectionist (Mr. Traill) have been nominated. The Government anticipate gaining twenty-three seats with freetrade candidates, out of 28 seats for which elections will be held on Saturday next.

"Two Ministerial candidates have been elected for different divisions of the city without opposition. The show of hands at the nominations to-day were seven to one in favour of Free-trade candi dates. THE IMPERIAL CONFERENCE.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.'s weekly circular says: —" It is stated, we believe correctly, that shippers of grain and some millers have adopted the American pool system, one firm buying for all, thereby avoiding competition. In consequence of this some growers are refusing to sell, and are forwarding their grain to Melbourne for storage.
