(.FROM ' OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] ' 1,1 ''• Hamilton, ' Saturday. )NB of th» duties Of the Borough Council on donday evening will be to advise the Mayor n the amount ,of accommodation required or borough purposes in the new pnblio iuildii)gß to be created, the Pnblio Works )epartment having asked for such statement lefore preparing the plans and specifications. ?he building is to be a large one of ooncrete, nd to cost £5000, and will contain for the lovernment use telegraph and post-office, ourthouse, registrar's, room, deed registry ffioe, land survey office, draughtman's room, co., all the necessary accommodation, in act, for making Waikato a separate JVaate Lands and education distriot as dvocated by the local Press for some years last. From outside conversations among the Jorough Councillors it is understood that mongst the borough requirements suggested iy the Council will be a Co a noil Chamber 5 x 25ft, wbioh will be available for County Council and Hospital Board meetings. A lublio library of the same size, Mayor's oom, , olerk's room, record ; and map room, fid caretaker's rooms, and probably accomaodation for fire brigade and engine. As he buildings are to be on the site of the old edoubt, beyond the Episcopalian Church, it i»„ proposed that a concrete tank, capable of tolding 100, gallons, shall be built in the op of the hill, receiving the water from the oof of the buildings. This would afford a urge supply of water with heavy pressure, lapable of putting out a fire in any part of he business portion of the town below. Cambridge, Saturday. Rain would be very welcome more upeoially for the turnip crop. On wellilied land that has been thoroughly ralverised, however, the turnips have not offered nearly so much from the long irought as in the oases where the ground vas only imperfeotly worked, the latter jeing unable to retain the moisture. The leeds used thiß season, Webb's, supplied >y Mr. G. J. Neal, of this place, have been nost successful, and farmers throughout the iVaikato are speaking very favourably of ihe result of their use, more especially of the imperial Swede, whioh is considered far and tway superior to any other not excepting the Caunton.
