BAY OF ISLANDS.—OPUA REGATTA.

The quietness of this port was disturbed on New Year's Day by aquatio amusements. The following gentlemen formed the Regatta Committee:—Messrs. T. P. Moody, J. D. Harris, Dr. Caldwell, Messrs. W. Collins, W. Philson, H. Williams, T. MoKenzie, G. Cox, R. Jarvis, ■ H. Lane, T. Hunter, H. Cook, and ;J. Murdoch. Starter, H. Cook; umpire, T. Hunter; treasurer, K. Jarvis; hon. secretary, J. Murdoch. The day was fine but rather hot. Two trains from Kawakawa brought about 200 people. The s.B. Ida ran between Russell and Opua all day, and brought a number Of pleasure-seekers. In all there were about 500 people present who enjoyed themselves immensely, everything having passed off most satisfactorily. Mr. Anderson tendered and secured the right to provide refreshments during the day, and a charge of 6d was made for going on the wharf, which went to the regatta fund. The following are the results of the events contested:— Skiff Outrigger Race.—Four entries : Waikara, Wilkinson, 1, prize £2; Albatross, Enderson, 2, £1. Ladies Sculling Race.— entries, Agnes, Miss Crossley, 1, prize £1 ; Alba« tross, Mrs. Walters, 2, 10*. Open Sailing Boats, 12 to 14 feet long.— Eleven entries : Belle, Swan, Fern, Lizzie, Fancy, Floss, Ida, Jack, New Year, May, and Edith. Ida, S. Cook, 1, prize £4 ; Fern, G. Greenfield, 2, prize £2. Open Boats.—Ten entries: Ada, Belle, Loo, Russell, Fern,. Swan, Lizzie, Ida, Floss, and Jack. Loo, W. Hunter, 1, prize £5; Ada, W. Fuller, 2, -62 10s. Boys' Pair Oars.G. Murdooh and J. McOormack, 1, prize, 12s ; A. Smaller and W. Murdoch, 2,6«.
