LONDON.

Our dates are to the 19th November. Prom the N.Z. L. and M. A. Co.'s circular of that date we take the following : —' Wool.—A rather better tone has prevailed in this market during the last week. This is attributable to the maintenance of consumption on a large scale, and consequent diminution in existing stocks owing to the postponement of the fifth series to 30th instant, and to the support given to values at the Antwerp sales lately terminated. These auctions commenced on 9tb instant, and closed on 12th idem, the o&talogueo embracing 561 bales Australian, of which 503

bales were disposed of, at rices on a pat with oloiing rate* of fourth series. Advices from the River, Plate continue to report: a probable decrease in thirf season's production, but it is diffi - cult to obtain reliable data with regard to this question. The following are the fresh arrivals for the fifth series : —New South Wales, 17,344 , bales Queensland, 5.983; • Victoria, 21,816 ; South Australia, 13,084 ; Weston Australia, 47; Tasmania, 751; New Zealand; '8,028; Cape of flood Hope, 21,263: total, 88,421 bale** t "" Tallow.—For tbe two public auctions held since tbe date of our last circular 1590 casks Australian and" New Zealand were catalogued, 1099 of these being disposed of under the hummer. The market throughout has been firmer, and all descriptions have advanced in value during ' the fortnight to the l extent of about 2« per cwt. Perhaps the most important factor in bringing about this improvement was the receipt of telegraphic advices from Australia to the effect that shipments thenco for October had . aggregated only 500 casks, ns compared with 5400 shipped in the corresponding period of 1885. This information, following upon the advice of limited shipments (300 casks) made during September, naturally imparted ' additional strength .to tho market. Stocks in London have been steadily decreasing of late; more favourable trade reports have latter]: been received from both France and Amprja ; and as home and export buyers ooij|j>tje to purohaae freely, the market oloses sjfj'dy with a further upward tendenoy. tTe quote:— P.Y.C., new, 31s 9J per owt.; mutton, fine. 29* 6d to 80s 3d t,ao", do. medium, 28s to 29»; do. do. hWjjno, nom., 26s to 275; do. do;-, medium, 24a to 25s 9J. Ileather, Hides, &o.—Leather : At the public 'Bales which were held on the 12th instant, out of an offering of 3146 sides, 1069 were disposed of. There wm a marked falling off in the demand, and for the portion sold recent rates ware with difficulty obtained; whilst for the bought in lots the biddings marked a decline qf fully J>l per lb. Compressed corn beaf oontinues to reoede in value. The ordinary trade demand has already become muoh diminished in view of the near approach of Christmas. We quote Boiled mutton : 21b tins, 4Jd to SJJ per lb; 41b tins, 4J4 to 4sd; 61b tins. 'l£d to 4|d. Boiled beef : 21b tins, 4id to 4|d per lb; 4ib tins, 4JJ to 4JI ; 61b tine, 4jd to 4jd. New Zealand Hemp.—Tbe market for Manila baa continued steady throughout the fortnight, whilst Sisal has further advanced, and sales have been effected at an advance of 10s per ton on our last quotations. There is little change to report in New Zealand descriptions, the stock of whloh»is at present small, and chiefly in the hands of dealers. Some 150 bales of good clean Auokland are offering at £24 10s per ton, £24 having been refused. We repeat our last quotations Superior soft, bright hemp, £24 to £25 per ton ; good quality and well cleaned, £23 to £23 10s ; medium, fair to good, £22 to £22 10s; common, coarse and strawy, £19 to £20.

Kauri Gam.— the public auctions which took place on 4th instant, 1216 oases were brought forward, and 723 oases were sold. A fair demand prevailed, and prices ruled fiirly steady,. Gums between 55s to 60* and below 50i per cwt were in good demand, whilit those between 80s to 90* per owfc were more inquired for. At yesterday's sale* 960 eases were catalogued, and 424 oases were disposed of. Gums below 40s per owt sold at an advance of fully 5* per cwt, while desoriptlooi from 45n to 55s per cwt met a good demand at steady rates. Other descriptions were without material change. We quote:—Fine pale, selected, £6 to £12 per cwt; clean, hard, good to fine, chiefly amber, 85s to 100j ; good to fine, clean, hard, scraped, 72s 6d to 82» 6d ; hard, three parti scraped, fair to fine, 56s to 67« 6d; hard, half aoraped, fair to fine. 49s to 575; rough sorts, ordinary to good, 40s to 46i; black and brown hard, scraped, No. 1, fine to superior, 55» to 62* 6d; do. do,, chiefly scraped, No. 1, 42s to 52s ; pickings, ordinary to fine, 30i to 40s; chips, low and ordinary to fine and superior, 15s to 60s; dust, low to fine, pale, chippy, 7s to 255.

Hops.— fair business has been passing daring the past fortnight, bat values are without material alteration. Some " long growths" have at length been placed, bat very low qualities continue neglected. The arrivals of foreign bops this season have been of small extent, the greater part being shipped to America, where, owing to the failure of the crop in the Eastern States, they meet a hotter market than here.
