ROTORUA.

[by telegraph—own correspondent.] Rotorua, Wednesday. A pleasant reunion and happy reminiscence of the good old days took place this afternoon in the temporary building used as a European Government School, the occasion being the distribution of prizes. A number of residents were present, and Mr. Johnson, the mercurial Government agent, as he has been facetiously termed, ably conducted the proceedings. The school having been broken' up some eight days previously, Mr. Webber, the master, was unfortunately on a holiday tour. The prizes only arrived in the interim. Mr. Johnson, after a few pointed and felicitous remarks, commenced the presentation, each of the successful pupils receiving in addition to his prize a hearty cheer from the assemblage, A pleasing feature was a round of applause given by the poor little disappointed ones to their luckier mates to show that no jealousy or ill-feeling existed. One or two gentlemen also gave a few words of counsel to the little ones, and after a hearty cheer and a vote of thanks to Mr. Johnson, the meeting adjourned to the grassy slopes of the Pukeroa hill, where follies and cakes were distributed and scrambled for as only school children can. The names of the prize-takers are : A. C. Clark, W. J. Johnson, James Morrison, William Dansey, H. D. Dansey, George Dansey, Edwin Kelly, William Martin, and Wm. Young. A special prize for attendance, punctuality, and diligence was awarded to Flora Morrison, the only female recipient in the school. Mr. Johnson intimated that tenders had been called for the erection of the new school, returnable by the end of January.
