AUCKLAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

The committee of the above association are doing their utmost to make the forthcoming competition as attractive as possible to all taking part in it. The firing is to take place on the Mount Eden range, on the Ist and 3rd January. It is estimated there will be about 100 competitors, including country " shootiats," who will be strongly reprepresented on thie occasion. There are nine matches arranged as follows :—First Match : (Beck's Cap) ranges,, 200, 400, and 500 yarda ; five shots each range Second match : 200 and 300 yards ; seven shots. Third match : (Citizen's trophy, and other prizes) 500 yards; ten shots. Fourth match : '(Aggregate match for District Medal, Hkjuld and Evening Star Cups) ten shots at 500 yards (the thirty highest scores in matches 1, 2, and 3, take part in this). Fifth match : (Companies' Team 9 Match, five men) ranges, 200 and 500 yards; seven shots. Sixth match : (Colonel Shepherd's Prize) 200 and 300 yards; class firing, targets and positions ; seven shot.* each range. Seventh match : (Capt. Whitney's Prize) ten shots at 500 yards (Auckland amnnitition to be used). Eighth match: Auckland Volunteers' Match; ranges, 200, 300, and 500 yards ; five shots each range. Ninth match : Consolation ; ranges, 200 and 300 yards ; five shots eaah range. In addition to the valuable trophies of the Association (which include Beck's Cup, the Citizens' Trophy, the Herald and Evening Star Cups), there are a number of prizes presented by the following citizens :— Messrs. Eady, Tilly, C. Canning, Hamilton Bros.. G. Bishop. E. Porter and Co., Kidd and Wildman, D. S. Chambers, T. Harris, G. Aickin, Murray and Spencer, Cruickshank and Miller, Masefiold, W. G. Allen, New Zealand Tweed Co., and many others. The firing is to start each morning at 7 o'clock, and it is expected that it will be concluded in the two days.
