SILK CULTURE IN AUCKLAND.

During the last few days many inquiries have been made of us as to when Mr. G. A. Schoch was to distribute the silkworm eggs recently imported, and where a supply of them could be obtained. Mr. Schoch has now despatched to the country distriots supplies to all who had previously sent him their addresses, and had informed him of the nnmber of white mulberry trees they had growing. On Monday he will distribute egge to all who apply for them. For the convenience of the general public, he will be in attendance in the Domain Gardens between three and five o'clock in the afternoon, at the conservatory, near Mr. Gold e's residence, for the purpose of distt biting the eggs which he has just receive t from France. Only those who have w.iite mulberry trees growing should apply. Eggs v/ill be distributed gratis, and it is to bo hoped that those receiving them will endeavour to care for the worms which may be hatched out. In a private note Mr, Sohoch says: "There is no reason or obstacle whatever to silk culture becoming a very important industry in this country, aa it has done in the United States. It is the very thing for young people, for instance. Not only will it prove a source of amusement, but, if properly attended to, and persevered in, also of profit. Besides, it will be the means of causing a good many young people to spend their time in a more satisfactory manner than what appears to be oftentimes the case at present." If all the eggs which have been imported are not distributed on Monday afternoon, Mr. Schoch will attend on subsequent days at the same hour and plaoe, until a fair and general distribution has been made. If proper care is taken, and the worms from the eggs carefully reared, it is probable that the foundation of a large industry will be laid. If good cocoons are produced, we believe Mr. Schoch will make arrangements for opening up an export trade in cocoons to the silk-manufacturing centres in Europe,
