' The twin screw steamer Waitoa arrived in harbour from Tauranga yesterday afternoon. {The object of the vessel's visit to this port is to anable those interested to inspect her, as she is "announced to be sold by auction on Thursday next. The steamer Is of 27 tons register, length 66 feet, beam 14 feet, and her steaming capabilities are equal to about 8 knots. The brigantine Darcy Pratt arrived at Xauncoston on the sth inst. . The. new cutter Heather Bell— by Mr. Q. N'iccal for the seal fishery—took her departure for the Bluff Harbour on Saturday last. As the cutter sailed out of the harbour before a pleasant B.W. breeze, she presented a very pretty sight. The barque Rebecca has at last left the Banks of the unemployed, and goes into active .service again. On Saturday last she proceeded to sea, bound for the Kaipara, where she has to load timber for Sydney. The barque was towed BS far as the North Head by the tug Awhina. On Saturday night last the s.h. Clansman, from Tauranga, and lona, from Mercury Bay, ' arrived with cargo and passengers, and early /yesterday morning the s.s. Wellington arrived 'on a special trip from Whangarei. This aftersoon the Clansman is te leave for Russell, , Whangaroa, and Mongonui, and the lona for Mercury Bay, Tairua, and Tauranga. The s.s. ': Wellington is not to leave for Whangarel until to-morrow evening at 10 o'clock, so as to permit ,of her going an excursion that day to the .' Kawau Island. The brigantine Maria Virginia, which has been alongside th Breakwater during the past • few weeks, in an almost dismantled condition, is to be at once put into sea-going order again. > She is to trade between this port and Whangaxei with coal from the Kamo Coal Co.'a mine. • The brigantine is to be under the charge of ' Captain Haul tain, late of the ketch Reliance. The schooner Maud Graham left Lyttelton 'for this port on Saturday last with a cargo '- consisting of 200 sacks oats, 250 sacks flour, 400 sails. The Union Co.'s s.s. Southern Cross arrived In harbour from Wellington and East Coast ports on Saturday night at 11.30 o'clock. This continued until the Ist instant, when the 'wind freshened to a N.N.W. gale, with a thick 'fog with rain. The Three Kings bearing E.N.E. .distance about 89 miles; light airs and calms : then prevailed, and it was not until the 4th that Cape Marie Van Diemen was passed. Thalia, which brought out relief crews for the • Opal and Raven, Is expected at Wellington within the next fortnight, en route for England. The cutter Deveron arrived from Gisborne, .via Whangarei, with a cargo of ooal on Saturday afternoon, after an absence of about fix months from Auckland, during which time she has beer .trading on the Coast to Gisborne.
