WAIKATO DISTRICT NEWS.
[from our own correspondents.! Hamilton, Thursday. A letter was received from Dr. Knight yesterday that another operation had been performed on the eyes of Mr. Georsre Barber, who left here a month ago, nearly if not quite blind from cataract of both eyes, and that his sight was now restored, and that he would, with the aid of spectacles, be able to work at his trade, as a carpenter, as well as ever. The secretary of the Railway Reform League informs me that Mr. Vaile had appeared before the committee appointed to inquire into his scheme of railway reform, and that then the committee adjourned for a few days, to enable Mr. Vaile to put his scheme into writing for the Government printer, to issue copies to members of committee. Yesterday James Brown, who has been begging at private house* and giving considerable annoyance to those who relieved him, was brought before Mr. Northcroft on two charges—drunkenuess, and with having no visible means of support. He was discharged on his promise to olear out of the district. Cambridge, Thursday. The Jam Factory directors, at a meeting held last night, resolved to treat with the owner of the jam and marmalade plant, who offers it for sale agreeing to take a third of the price in paid up shares. Te Awamdtd, Thursday. The publio meeting of delegates from the various highway districts and Town Board districts, which was proposed for Tuesday last, but did not come off, is likely to be better attended on the 22nd inst,, tu« object for which it is called on this occasion being the direct issue between the coun ties and the Road Boards, on which there 'fit a great diversity of opinion in Waipa. Now that the railway authorities are about to issue an amended time-table for the Waikato services, it is to b« hoped that the claims of Te Awamutu to r.j second daily train will not be lost sight of. It is absurd to shut the Waikato district up at three p.m., which the present (service certainly does.
