THE TOWN CLOCK.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,'—A paragraph appeared in your issue of last Saturday, written by "Mercutio," condemning the town clock as unreliable aa a standard of time, and Professor Aldis'a name is quoted in justification of the satirical remarks. We, having set up the clook, and being responsible for its regularity andt correctness, deemed it incumbent on us to interview the professor. He admits having made allusion to the clock, and was under the impression that it varied, from the fact that his watch an (ordinary lever) and it did not always agree, and expressed regret at having done the clock and us an injustice. Allusion is also made to the necessity of an observatory, with instruments for ascertaining the correct time. We beg to invite your facetious correspondent to call at our establishment, and wewillshowhim anobservatory with transit instrument, astronomical dock, and every other facility for carrying out hi* suggestions, and which we daily use for adjusting and rating chronometers and checking the town time. And we fearlessly challenge him to show the time when the said clock was in error 30 seconds, if tested by the first stroke of the bell when striking the hour.— are, Sc., A. G. Bartlett k Soys, Chronometer and watchmakers, 154, Queen, street.
