The report of the Temperance Vigilance Committee, which has been tacitly ignored by the Christohurch Licensing Committee, was read at the Lyttelton Licensing Com-, mittea meeting, and elicited a warm disous> sion. The report goes to show that, in the opinion of the temperance people, the pro* vision against Sunday trading is, prrotically inoperative in Lyttelton. Sir W. Fox and Mr. Glover have formed a branch of the New Zealand Temperance Alliance here, with rather more than sixty members. There has not been muoh enthusiasm evoked by their visit in Christchurch.
