(press association.] Wellington, Friday. The City Council have accepted the tender of Mr. J. Saunders, for £14,200, for additional reclamation of Te Aro foreshore. Christohurch, Friday. The report of the Temperance Vigilance Committee, which has been tacitly ignored by the Christohurch Licensing Committee, was read at the Lyttelton Licensing Com-, mittea meeting, and elicited a warm disous> sion. The report goes to show that, in the opinion of the temperance people, the pro* vision against Sunday trading is, prrotically inoperative in Lyttelton. Sir W. Fox and Mr. Glover have formed a branch of the New Zealand Temperance Alliance here, with rather more than sixty members. There has not been muoh enthusiasm evoked by their visit in Christchurch. This afternoon a slight break occurred on the North Railway between Culverden and Balmoral. The train from the North was delayed two hours, Dunedin, Friday. Charles Miller, the expressman who was injured by stones from the blast in Dowlingstreet, has served the Corporation with a writ claiming £500 damages. At a meeting of policyholders In the industrial branch of the Government Association, it was resolved to petition the Government, recommending the closing of the branch here, and the return of the money in full. John Creighton, runholder, Mount Ida, has filed. His liabilities are £7420, and hia assets £10,000.
