It is stated that there had been 12 children cf the first marriage, Police-constable 217, lv division, who had arrested the prisoner, informed the court that the accessary witness to prove the iirfit marriage wr.a not present that day, as there had not been suflieient time to procure his attendance, the prisoner having been charged only o>.; the previous evening. The constable, however, hnnde<l in the two certificates of marriage. From these it appeared that tha prisoner \7»3 first married to Elizabeth Wary Uaf!f;cs, at the pariah church of Chesterton, Cambridgeshire, on Christmas Day, ISCJC, he giving the name of Charles Edward Holmes, and describing himself as a joiner, of lull age. The second marriage is alleged to have taken place at the church of St. Jame?-the-Lese, Bethnal Green, on October 9, ISS2. The certificate, signed by the Rev. G. Aldridge, cuiate, and witnesses, indicated that the parties were "Charles Graves Sawles, widower, aged 27, son of Sir t.harlcs Graves Sawle, Baronet," and "Ellen Stanlick, spinster, of 31, Angela Gardens, daughter of Samuel Stanlick, bricklayer." Elizabeth Stanlick, who had signed the charge-sheet as prosecutrix, described herself as a " servant," and gave the address 164, v-cwsrdstonc-roac], Victoria Park, E. Mr. Bushby remanded the prisoner upon the strength of the two certificates put in. Prisoner made no remark, and he was removed in custody.
