MR. BRYCE.
The VVaugsnui Chronicle has a loadiug article suggesting that a reception should be given to Mr. Bryoo on his return to the colony. It says : —" Before many days are over, Mr. Bryce may be expected to be back in Wangamii, and it is, therefore, high time that some consideration were given to the kind of reception to be accorded him. Mr. Brvce has cleared himself and cleared the colony which he servod ho vr«ll from Mr. Kujdftii's foul slanders, which otherwise would have been charged against the colniiints for yearn. Cold, unsympathetic, taciturn, when subjected to a Bearohiug examination in the witness-box, the man's licences of intellect aiul straightforward honesty of purpooe would both become strikingly apparent, and it is, therefore, not' at all suprising to learn that he won favour in the eyes of the judge who presided at the trial, and of the jury who tried the case. When hs left the colony on what many thought a worae than wild gooae chase, there was hardly a journal in the colony that cared to speak a word of cheer or encouragement. Ho went home self contained, self-dependent, strong in tho righteousness of hie cause, and with a lirin belief that he should win his case. Now that hs hiss been ao greatly successful, almost every journal, from one end of tho colony to the other, sounds his praises, and the leading papers in the other colonies have just as warmly taken up the strain. 80 far well. But a little more enthusiasm may be looked for from tho people of this district when the victorious deleuder of their honour again appears amongst them. What form the reception should take is a matter for a committee to consider and determine, but we throw out the reminder now, so that it may be simmered ovor during tho Easter holidays, and bo given practical effect to early in the week."
