ARRIVAL OF THE MARIST BROTHERS.

The Marist Brothers, whose advent has been looked forward to by the Roman Catholic community for somo time past, arrived by the Manaponri from Wellington yesterday. They are four in numberBrothers Edwin (Superior), Vial, Jerome, and Damian. Brother John, Provincial of the mother house in Sydney, accompanied them. The Very Rev. Father W. McDonald, Very Rev. Father Downey, Rev. Father Paul, and several of the laity, met this Brothers 'at the wharf, anil conveyed them in cabs to the Bishop's Palace, Ponsonby, where they were introduced to His Lordship and Father Egan (Private Secretary). They subsequently visited the school in Pitt-street, and also St. Patrick's Cathedral. They are very well pleased with the school, and noticed with pleasure the various alterations which are being made to suit their requirements. Brother Edwin, the Superior, is by no means a stranger to the colony, having been engaged for the last ton years in the schools of the Order in Wellington. He is a pleasant-faced, geniallooking gentleman, and is quite confident that their schools here, as elsewhere, will be a success. The good fortune which has attended Bishop Luck in his labours for the diocese is, Brother Edwin thinks, a guarantee, as it were, that their start here will be a success. Uphill work, too, is nothing new to the Brothers ; they fully expect it for a time. In Sydney the Brothers claim to have an attendance of 1500 boys at their different city and suburban schools of the Order. It is hoped that there will be a full and representative attendance of the Catholic body here at the gathering in the school-room tomorrow evening, when the Brothers will be introduced to the people by His Lordship Bishop Luck.
