TRAGIC OCCURRENCE AT OXFORD.
[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Oxford, Monday. This township was startled this morning by a tragical event, the body of a young man named Mr. Charles Willis being found shot dead in his room, off the store of which he was in charge for Mr. Kincaid. Nothing is known as to the cause, and it is supposed to have been the result of a gun accident, as he was out shooting yesterday and again this morning, and it is surmised that while drawing the charge the gun went off in his face. No reason can be assigned for suicide, as he was of a cheerful disposition, and not in any difficulty. Willis' life was insured in the Colonial Mutual Association Society for £500, and was also insured in the Accident Company, but the policy expired only last Tuesday. Mr. Searancke leaves by the Rotorua coach to morrow morning at seven a.m. to hold the inquest.
