[press association.] NAPIER, Tuesday. - Captain Russell addressed a meeting of his constituents at Hastings on Saturday night. There was a good attendance, and a vote of confidence was carried unanimously. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Thorndon licensing Committee have granted all renewals, except in two cases, which were adjourned for fourteen days.' - The Customs revenue collected in the colony for the last mouth was £107,834, as against £107,356 for the. corresponding month of last year, . The amounts collected at the j principal ports last month were : — Auckland, :• £24,082 ; Wellington. £20,474 ; Lyttelton and Christohurch, £13,699 ; Dunedin, £29,730. The beer duty last month for the colony was £4185; . for the corresponding month last year it was, £4219. : Tho principal amounts last month were Auckland, £947; Wellington, £391; Christohurch, £867 ; Dunedin, £467. - ■« i. The Medical Society of Christohurch have forwarded to the Colonial Secretary the following resolution, carried at a meeting of the society on the 27th : *' That the society sympathises with Dr. Stewart under the irritation which he must suffer from the terrible and ssandalous attack which appeared , in the Evening Press of Wellington on May 21st, 1*85." .. ... .. The strike amongst the coal miners of the «oal pit at Heath mine ended last evening by the men resolving to go to work this morning. : The price agreed .upon iB 3s 6d per ton, and the men allowed to " cable" for places, or draw lots for the particular part of the mine they shall work in. ~ CHRISTOHURCH, Tuesday. The total strength of the - volunteers in Canterbury, including the honorary corps, is 1451. Shortly after two o'clook this afternoon a platelayer named John Lewes, working on the Rangiora and Fernside section of the line, fell from a trolly going at the rate of four or five miles an hour. The wheel inflated injuries on the leg and sides, the extent not being yet known. He also received a serious blow on the head. - ; DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The suburban Caversham Licensing Committee have fixed on ten o'clook as the hour of closing all hotels. V v f
