WAIKATO DISTRICT NEWS.
[by tej-egrank.—own correspondents.] Tk Awamutb-, Monday evening. The annual meeting for granting licenses for the Rangiaohia District was held in the courthouse to-day. Mr. Wm. Taylor (Chairman), and all the commissioners attended. Licensee were granted to Mr. Henry Lewis and Mr, James Devin subject to their providing sufficient fire escapes.
A testimonial, accompanied by a silver tea and coffee service, was presented to Sergeant Gillies, who has been removed to Mercer, by the residents of the district in recognition of his impartial conduct daring the tight years he has been in charge here. Kihixihi, Monday evening. The Kihikihi Licensing Bench at their annual meeting to-day, only renewed licenses of applicants on condition that during the current quarter each hotel should have a fire escape staircase, and a substantial rope ladder for each bedroom window.
