MINISTERS IN AUCKLAND.
The Hon. E. Richardson, Minister of Publio Works, arrived by the Tarawera yesterday, and was soon in harness receiving deputations with the Premier. Of these we give a report elsewhere. In the forenoon, the Premier, accompanied by the Mayor and Professor Aldis (Chairman Board of Education) visited the Wellesleystreet East; School. Hβ was exceedingly pleased wil;h its management and its system. He considered it just as good a sohool as any he had seen throughout the colony. Mr. Stout also visited the Infant Sohool attached to Newton East School, taught by Mrs. Skeen, who was Mr. Stout's first teacher at Lerwiok, Scotland. Mr. Stout remembered his former teacher, notwithstanding that 30 years had elapsed since he had seen her. The Premier also visited the Girls' High School, St. Mary's Convent, the glass works, and the Mahurangi lime cement works of Messrs. Hibberd and Legge. The Premier will leave by special train today for Waikato, to be present at the turning of the first sod of the Trunk Railway, which ia to take place on Wednesday. It will be iieen by reference to an advertisement that Jin opportunity will be given to the public to visit the scene on Wednesday, at very low fares. If nothing untoward occurs, the Premier will adhere to his original programme of returning to Wellington by the Wangauui River, but if war is ukely to be declared, he will come again to Auckland and go to Wellington at once in the Hinemoa.
