NEW ZEALAND UNIVERSITY SENATE.
The Senate met at Government House on Saturday. Present: The Chancellor (Dr. Hector), in the chair; Mr. Fitchett, Professor Shand, Rev. Dr. Salmond, Rev. J. Paterson, Bishop Redwood, Dr. Giles, and Professor Sale. NOMINATION FOR TELtOWrilllP. Professor Sale nominated Professor Cook, of Canterbury College, to the vacancy on the Senate, caused by the resignation of the Rev. Mr. Fraser. . . - MODERN LANGCGKS. Professor Sale is to move to-day :— That in the Statute of Honours, section iii., subsection 1, letter D, modern languages, instead of '■■ the • words, ' French and either German or Italian,' the words ' French or German or Italian ' be substituted ; and that a corresponding change bo made in the statutes of the degree of Master of Arts and of senior scholarships." -. COURSE IN, SCIENCE. The committee of the whole submitted a scheme for degrees in science, but we are not able to give it in full to-day. COMMITTEES. Sub-committees sat .during the day to consider the various questions remitted to them. ■
