WRECK OF THE BARQUE MARY ANN ANNISON.
[paOM OUR OWN CORREBPONDTOI.] Hblensville, Friday. Thb Northern River Company'e steamer Eina brings news that the barque Mary Ann Annison (Captain Carpenter) hoe gone ashore at the North Spit, Kaipara Heads. The crew are safe, but it is expected the vessel will beoome a total wreck. She wat bound for Sydney with a cargo of timber from Tauhoa, and believed to be under charter to Messrs. Stone Bros., of Auokland. Captain Smith, Harbourmaster, is at the scene of the wreck.
The above barque is no stranger to.this port, having upon several occasion! visited here with cargoes of grain, fee. She was of the old school of wooden vessels, and was turned out at Sunderland, England, in 1866. She was of 279 tons register, and at the time of her wreck was owned by Messrs. Thomas Mclntoah and others, of Lyttelton. Although nineteen years old, the barque was still a good sound vessel, and had the name of being able to carry a perishable cargo in excellent order. The Mary Ann Annison has been lying at the Heads for the last day or two, having been delayed there to obtain a chief officer, and it is a matter of surprise how the barque should have gone ashore as she has done, the weather having been beautifully fine, with little or no wind, and a smooth sea during the past week or two. Captain Carpenter has not long been in command of the barque, but like the vessel is no stranger either to the Kaipara or this port.
