LICENSING COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

PARNELL. The poll for the return of the Parnell Licensing Committee took place in the Parnell Hall yesterday from nine a.m. to six p.m. Unlike the elections for the city committees, there was a spirited contest in this borough. The temperance "ticket" was ten o'clock closing, while the opposition was eleven o'clock. As will be seen by the annexed return, the temperance candidates, Messrs. W&lker, Frater, Clarke, Waymouth, and Wood, had an easy victory. The poll, which was declared about seven o'clock by Mr. F. Kilfoyle, substitute returning officer, was as follows :— B. Walker ... 163 J. "Winks ... 99 It. Frater 163 G. Raynes ... 91 J. F. Clarice ... 162 F. Ledger ... 90 E. Waymouth ... 159 K. J. Yates ... 89 C Wood 155 F. Ireland ... 86 Mr. Kilfoyle declared the first five duly elected. " ' KIHIKIHL Kihikihi, Friday. The following were the nominations for the Kihikihi Licensing Bench :—Messrs. Bond, Cowan, Farrell, Kay, and Qualtrough. As there was no excess of the number required, the returning officer declared the candidates duly elected. ECCLESIASTICAL. ,» The Incumbent of St. Matthew's i> announced to preach a course of sermons on "The Human Heart; its Nature, Struggles, and final Triumph.'' The discourses being founded in the several gospels read during Lent will doubtless prove instructive, whilst it is almost needless to say that such a subject «hould prove of interest to all. The last services in old St. Paul's will be held to-morrow. The preachers announced are, in the morning, Archdeacon Dudley, and in the evening the Incumbent. THe farewell words of each of these gentlemen should prove very interesting to all of those •who have taken interest in the old church. Members of the congregation and friends of the church will doubtless avail themselves in numbers of these last opportunities of worshipping and hearing the Word in old St. Paul's. The work of demolition and removal of the church furniture will be commenced on Monday morning. At Parnell Weeleyan Church to-morrow morning, Mrs. Leavitt will give an address. In the evening the Rev. R. Bavin will, by special request, repeat his discourse on " Lessons from the life and character of the late Genera] Gordon." The Rev. A. Reid will deliver a discourse in the Pitt-street Weeleyan Church tomorrow evening on "The Bible doctrine of a personal Devil not inconsistent with Divine benevolence." The Rev. H. J. Lewis, of Nelson, will preach at Beresford-street Congregational Church to-morrow evening, and the Rev. J. Hoatson, of Christchurch, will preach at Mount Eden Chapel in the evening. The services at the Wesleyau Church, Grafton Road, to-morrow, will be of a apeoial character. By announcement the »ev. T. Adams preaches in the morning, and *Jr. W- S. Allen, M.P., in the evening.
