Anglesey went round the coarse at half pace, and Bargo, Hastings, Hippogriff, Helena, and Bonnie Bee once ronnd at three-quarter pace. Vergy went twice round splendidly. Latest betting for the Derby : Silver King, 100 to 10 (taken and off) ; Merriman, 100 to S (off) ; Helene and King of the Gipsies, 10Q\ to 7 (off) ; Tremando, 100 to 4 (off). For the Cap : 100 to 5 is taken and offered about Hastings. All the previous quotations hold good. SCRATCHINGS. The following scratchings for the Melbourne Cap were posted to-day : Britisher, Camerine, Chucbster, Country Boy, Duration, King of the Gipsies. Lavington, Maroney, Reginald, Sirocco, The Agent, and Too Too. _ The necessity for a new grand stand at theEllerslie racecourse was made very apparent on Saturday at the Fakuranga Meeting-. Although the gathering was by no means abnormally large, the main grand stand waa crowded to' its bottom steps. In addition to the entries for the One— hunga Hurdle Race, we have to mention the name of Mr. Howard's Alfred. It was not received in time for publication in the list which appeared in yesterday's issue. The Auckland Racing Club, not having received a tender which appeared to their satisfaction for working the totalisator at the forthcoming meeting, call for tenders, returnable at noon on the 4th of November. Mr. Hyland, the well-known horse-tamer, arrived in Auckland yesterday, and intendsat an early date to give iustruction and exhibitions for the management of refractoryquadrupeds. In our message yesterday morning it waa. stated that Hilltop and The Planger had each been backed tc win £2000 ; this should have,read £20,000. Cambridge, Monday.
