RAILWAY EXTENSION IN THE NORTE.
[a-£ TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.J Wahkworth, Monday. A laeoe and representative public meeting •was held here to-day to consider the proposed extension of the railway to the _ Mr. J. H. Hudson movei I'Thafc in the opinion of this meeting railway communication should be extended north from Auckland before isolated portions of railway are ■constructed further north also that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Government and to Mr. Moat." This was seconded by Dr. McMurdo, and carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr. N. Wilson, Chairman of the Rodney County Council, "That this meeting appoint a standing committee to •watch the progrefs of the Northern railway, and that it have power to call public meetings of the Eettlers at any time the committee think fit." Thi3 was also carried. The following Vigilance Committee were then elected unanimously: — Messrs. N. Wilson, J. Thompson, D. Teed, A. Hood, Sainsbury. C. A. McMnrdo, and J. H. Hudson. The following resolution was then moved by Mr. Wilson, seconded, and carried : "That -this meeting views with great alarm the principle contained in the East and West Coast Railway Bill, Middle Island, the principle of which has been extended to a portion of the line north of Auckland, viz., the giving of large blocks of the public estate* to the companies to construct these lines ; also that a copy of this resolution be sent to the government and to our member." There were many speakers, and the meeting felt strongly on the above resolutions.
