A NARROW ESCAPE.
As exciting scene, says a London paper, was witnessed near Beckenham recently. On a level crossing between the latter place and Croydon, some boys were crossing into a field when one of them got his boot fixed |n one of the points, and could not extricate it. The Quarter to- four train had just left Beckenham Juuotion, and the other lads, seeing the peril of their comrade, shouted and screamed, but were unable to render any help. Their ories attraoted the attention of a publican named Davies, who was driving past at the time. Seeing tho danger of the Doy, he ran to tho spot, ana the bojrs boot being a laced one, Mr. Davis ripped it up with a knife, and thus released the lad's foot, who had fainted and fallen on the line. He instantly dragged him on one tide, but in doing so he wm caught by the. buffer ot the engine, whicn now rushed by, and 'sustained a severe contnsion on the head, but otherwise escaped serious injury. The orossin J at this place has alrvays been considered a daogerotu one.
