SOMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESAN SYNOD.
T£e' ! first Synod of the Komatt Catholio Churoh of this diocese began yesterday. In the forenoon the Pontifical High Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's Cathedral. The following members of the clergy were presents Bishop Luek, Monaignor Fynes, the Very Kev. W. McDonalc, the Revs. M. j>. O'Hara, J. Paul, P. O'Keilly, F. Mahoney, 0.5. F., R. L'Anuzel, P. Kiordan, P. Costelloe, G. M. Lenihan, end Fathers J. Downey, A. Luck, F. Vaggioli, E. O'Gara, aad Noboa, 0.5.8. In the Pontifical High Ma«s. the Bishop acted as celebrant ; Father. .Walter ' McDonald, as assistant priest, the Revs. J. Paul and M. D. O Uara as deacons of the throne, Father _Luok, 0.5.8., as deaotra of the Mass, Father O'Gara, 0.8.8., as sub-deacon, and M. Me*zher'(ft lay brother) as Master of Ceremonies." There was a full cboir, Father Lenihan assisting, end the "Kyne from "Weber'e Maes in G was admirably rendered. As it was only a votive Mass of the Holy Ghost there was no "Gloria" or "Credo." After the morning »ervice the Synod began its sessions. The Bishop said the cnetomary prayers and intoned the "Veni Creator," which was taken up by the oaators, Fathers Luok and O'Gitra, 0.5.8., and joined in by the whole body of. priests. The prayer ended, the Bishop ascended tho throne, and having read the Latin allocation prescribed for each occaiions, he briefly addreseed the clergy upon the matters to be discussed during the Synod. At..the close of the address the officers o.E the Synod were named by the Biahop and published by Father O'Gara, 0.5.8., the Secretary of the Synod, as follows:— Promoter, Very Rev. J. 0. Downey, 0.5.8. ; Secretary, Father O'Gara, 0.5.8.; Masters of Ceremonies, Rev. P. O'Reilly and Father Vaggioli, 0.5.8.; Judges of Disputes, Monsignor Fynes, V.G., Revs. M/D. O'Hara, and J. Panl; Prefects ef Hospitality : Revs. W. McDonald and (J. Lenihan. The roll of the clergy of the diocese was then called, and three were found to be absent on duty. "After this the. Profession of Faith, which is found inithe Koman Ritual, and whioh is Commonly called the Creed of Pope Pins IV., with the additions required since the Vatican Council,. Was made by all the clergy,'headed by the Bishop. At halfpaet three o'clock in the afternoon the clergy assembled in the schoolroom, Hobson-etreet, when various matters of church interest ■were brought under their notice, but no business of importance was transacted. A short service was held in the cathedral ia the evening at seven o'clock. The Synod will meet again this morning.
