Quilp and Fisherboy were scratched. Tidal Ware started with the lead, which she kepi till on passing the post the first time, "Whalebone then passed the grey. Towards the.,back of the course in the last round Chandler commenced going up, and passing through to second place pushed Whalebone for the' lead, Fair Play working up on the chestnut's quarters. A good start was made, Whalebone and Quilp taking the first hurdle together and making the running, Chandler and Fair- Play lying well behind. Quilp was thefirsttoappearbackfromtheroad, closely followed by Fair Play and Chandler, Whalebone having been thrown out at the road jump. In the third round Fair Play made the running hot for Quilp, bat Hope fell at a hurdle, and though he got quickly Oα again Fair Play lost ground. On coming to the thorn fence, Quilp leading, Fair Play fell, and Chandler fell over him, jockeys and horses being mixed up together. Quilp, of course, had an easy run in.
