SOUTHERN MINING.

Daring several months past the Kainy Creek Company have not been in full operation about the mine, but some further explorations are shortly to be taken in hand.

The Fiery Cross Company are still carrying the 450-feat level northwards. The width of the reef is about 3 feet, and in the atope immediately over the drive a large body of stone is being broken down. Eighty feet up the -winze there are also some men procnring stone. There are about 30 men in the company's employ. There is about 160 tons of ore in the various paddocks. Last week's crushing return produced 210ozs. lOdwts. amalgam.

The Welcomo battery is constantly in motion treating quartz raised from this mine. There are four berdans on the ground which are about to be erected in addition to the thirteen already in .position. In the interior of this company's mine the greatest of activity is being shown, the chief operations being carried on south of the winze. Last peek's operations produced 4530z5. amalgam for 90 tonß stone.

Should the stone now about to be' treated give similar yields to those of thfe past, and therei is very little doubt but that they will, promising prospectsare in store for the shareholders.

The Fiery Cross Company commenced to> crash at the upper battery on the morning of Ist instant, and will continue in occupation- till aboiit. the - last week of the present month. The quantity of stone to be treated this term of crushing will possibly be about 450 tons. The yield is likely to be from 26 to 30dwts. per ton of qaartz. The Rosa United Gold Mining Company are reported to be making good progress with the sinking of the shalt. It is also stated that another layer of washdirt has been struck, showing gold.
