BOWLING MATCH.
A match for £20 a-side was played at Mr. Porter's American Bowling Saloon last night between Mr. John Green, who has been looked upon as the champion of Auckland, and Mr. J. R. Scott, licensee of the Nevada Hotel. The alley was in the most perfect order, being smooth and true—indeed, too much so in the estimation of Green, who thinks there was not sufficient ■ chance for skew balls. There was a large attendance and considerable interest was taken in the match. The betting to commence with was 15 to 10 on Mr. Green, and lie was accepted as a favourite from the start. The play throughout was very poor, much below the usual average of both players, but it resulted in a victory for Mr. Scott. The possible score we may add in eaoh game is 150. This was reached two nights previously by Mr. Green, and Mr. Scott's highest score was 143. It will be seen that the scoring last night was very much below even the general play of such good players. Tho games resulted as follows : — Ist game : Green, S3 ; Scott, 5 1 ?. 2nd : Green, 53; Scott,. 82. 3rd: Green; 75; Scott, 93. 4th : Green, 7S ; Scott, 61. sth : Green, 66; Scott, 58. 6th: Green, 52; Scott, 81. 7th : Green, 85 ; Scott, 52. Sth : Green, 53; Scott, SS. 9th : Green, 79 ; Scott, 72. ' 10th : Green, 69 ; Scott, 78. 11th: Green. 76; Scott, 116. Mr.-Scott, therefore, won by 1 game and 40 pins. Mr. Green has, we understand, issued a challenge to repeat the match, and it will no doubt be accepted,
