NORTHERN JOCKEY CLUB'S RACES.
The Northern Jockey Club's Meeting at Whaugarei was concluded on January 12, aud was in every way a success. The weather on both days wa3 all that could be desired, and the attendance was unusually large. The following are tbe details of the racing : — First Day, Maiden Hurdle Handicap ; distance, 1 mile aud a-half, nver G flights of hurdles.— Lu9hint>ton's Fly (J. Rae), 1 ; J. Mclnuess' Amateur (A. Mackenzie), 2 ; Captain Crawford's Waitaki, 3. Hack Hurdle Race ; distance and jumps same as last race.—P. Brown's Don Oarios (F. Smith), 1 ; M. McMillan's Dolly Wean (M. McKinnon), 2. Five horses started. Pony Race ; distance, 1 mile and n quarter ; for ponies not exceeding 14 hands.— McLeod's Transit (W. Sarah), 1 ; Captain Crawford's Lily, 2. Northern Jockey Club Handicap ; distance 1 mile and a-half. W. Adams' Kalo (Vaile), 1; B. Thompson's Yuba Bill (Wattie), 2 ; Bobbett's Libeller, 3. Publicans' Flyinu Stakes Handicap ; distance 1 mile. Mr. B. Thomson's Yuba Bill (Wattie), 1 ; D. llayos' Stanley (R. Foy), 2; R. Douglas' Rita, 3. Four horses started. Ladies' Purse ; distanco 1 mile and ahalf.—J. Smeatun's Decoivcr (Simson), 1 ; J. Mclnnes's Investment (U. Molnnea), 2; Mr. Brockcr's Maid of A thene, 3. Skuo.nl> Day. Handicap llurolk Kaoe ; 2 miles, over S flights of hurdles. — Robertson's Harkaway (Bealrn), 1 ; Christy's frovatore (Dawson), 2 ; C. H. Luihington's Kly, 3. Maidhn Plate ; distance, 1 mile and a-half.—D. McKiunon's Strathearn (Wattie), I ; Brooker's Maid of Athens (Munn), 2; Douglas' Multum in Parvo, 3. The meeting was altogether a aucceis. The stewards of the club having made every necessary arraogcment for the comfort of visitors, all seemed to enjoy themselves, and there was not a hitch throughout the meeting.
