ST. SEPULCHRE'S ANNIVERSARY.

A social gathering in aid of the repairs of the schoolhouse, Symonds-street, was held last night in the school building. The gathering was one of the largest we have seen on such an occasion. There must iiave been at least from 700 to 800 persons present. His Lordship the Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Cowie) and the clergy of the various Anglican churches were present. Tea was on the tables at G. 30. At ha'f-past seven o'clock the public meeting and entertainment was held. On the motion of Mr. G. P. Pierce, the Veu. Archdeacon Dudley was called to thechair. Th>; announcement of Mr. Dudley's new dignity was received with a very cordial demonstration of satisfaction. The Archdeacon was again warmly received upon takii.g the chair. He thanked tnepamhioners for what they hail done. The reuairs of the Symonds-street building would be nearly met by the proceeds of that gathering. But he hoped to see a second building as large as that in the parish for the use of the Sundayschool. Another school building was necessary, if all the children of the parish were to be taught.—His Lordship the Bishop said it pave him pleasure to be the guest of Archdeacon Dudley for the first time. (Applause ) He assured the meeting that he had never greater satisfaction making any appointment than that which conferred the office of Archdeacon on the pastor of St. Sepulchre's parish. He expressed the acknowledgments that were due by the parish to Dr. Purchas for the assistance he gave to Mr. Dudley. He hoped next year to see two Sunday-school buildings in the parish and an assistant clerg3"tnan to aid Mr. Dudley. The office of Archdeacon was a responsible one in the colonies. Mr. Dudley succeeded four distinguished holder 3 of the office, viz., Archdeacons Maunsell, Kissliug, Abraham, and Lloyd. Mr. Tebbs, incumbent of St. Matthew's, and the Eev. J. S. Hill addressed the meeting.
