Glenelg, from Tauranga, arrived m harbour early yesterday morning, with several passengers and a general caigo. She left again last evening for the same port. The ship Brahmin, from London, is now 100 days out, and may therefore be expected to arrive at any moment. The ketch Reliance (for Whangarei), Fanny Kelly (for Mangonui), and Opotiki (for Whangarei) all cleared outwards at tlie Customs vesterday. The s.s. Wairarapa took her departure for Melbourne, via Southern ports, yesterday, with passengers and cargo. The light on board this vessel is (as is the same with others of the Union Company) regularly used when the vessel is under steam, the oil lights being used in ports only. Occasionally the small ir.cr.nlamps are broken through the two sm.'.ll wires in them fusing. Upon a recent occasion one of the stewards was unwittingly usißg a large clasp knife to separate the wires of one of these innocent and harmless-looking miniature g:cbe3, when quicker than he could wink hid eyes, the heivy blade was burnt off the handle, leaving the latter in his grasp. The steward now considers he w'xs as near being the hero of an accideut in the history of electricity cn the Wairarapa as it was possible to bo and survive. THE UNION S.S. COMPANY.
