Hamilton, Tuesday. A call o! Is per share on the Waikato Cheese and Bacon Factory has been made to have money in hand .to enable the works to be proceeded' with immediately on Captain Runciman'o return in September. ■ The annual election, in place of the three retiring members of the Borongh Council, is .fixed for the 14th September, and the 6th September for the day of nomination. A great effort will be made by the burgesses on this occasion to raise the! tone of the Council.
Captain Turner writes to the Piako Council explaining tbat the bad roads, and tho weather combined, have caused the delay complained of in the construction of the Waihou Bridge. Mr. Henderson, the contractor., will proceed "with the work as soon as practicable. Captain Turner has also been instructed to prepare plans and specifications for two bridges on the TaurangaCainbridge road, over the Mangawhare and Mangawhero Creeks. Cambridge, Tuesday. Mr. Robertshaw's store, at Tamahere, will be opened this week. A telephone, connecting with the Hamilton Telegraph Station, will be placed under Mr. Robertshaw's charge, aad will be of great convenience to settlers. '
Mr. James Stewart reports on the Te Aroha tramway that he has been seriously delayed in the survey by the tediousness of the work, caused by the inclemency of the weather and the nature of the country. The gradient will be one in thirty. Mr. Furchas is now laying oat the side lines and staking out," and Mr. Crump is engaged levelling. Mr. Stewart will be prepared to shortly call for tenders, on conditions which will allow of improvements being effected as the work proceeds. The Council has forwarded Mr. Stewart an imprest supply of £200 for the work, and written to the member for Waikato, Mr. J. B. Whyte, asking him to get the sum of £6000 promised by the Government, made available at once.
It 13 reported that when the men of tbo Armed Constabulary force leave their winter quarters here, they will be employed in making the road from Whatiwhatihoe through the King country, instead. of returning to the Rotorua-road works, which will, iu a great part, be let by contract.
WIIATA whata, Tuesday. Mr. H. Vaughan, of Hamilton, takes over the hotel here on the Ist proximo, and Mr. Kellow will take over the providoring of the Waikato Steam Navigation Company's steamers.
