iNew Plymouth, Tuesday. | The dead body found on the Opunake road, about a mile from Stratford, turned out to be a man named Unolls, u Tyrolese. He was last seen in the company of AntonioSchavell, who has been only a few months out of a lunatic asylum, and who, it is supposed, has murdered UIIOII3, as the body has the wound of a knife in its side. Schavell, who has been heard to threaten Unolls' life, as well as other persona, is not to be found, bat the police are making ' active search for him, as lie is a dangerous man to be at large. Later.—A Stratford correspondent sends the following particulars of the murder. A Tyrolese, named Unolls, and Antonio Schavell, went up the Opunake-road yesterday, to see about some bush falling, and were seen returning about half a-mile from Stratford. Schavell was seen passing through the town alone on his way home to Midhurst Park. On Mr. Grigg, foreman for the Ngaire Road Board, going up the Opunake-road, he found Unolls' body stabbed in the back and abdomen, and covered with blood. He was in a reclining position against the bank at the side of the road, about five minutes' walk nearer Stratford than where the men were last seen together. There were signs of a severe struggle having taken place, the victim having evidently fought hard for life. Schavell was arrested at Midhurst last night, by Sergeant Ca.vail and Constable Topp. When Topp approached him he exclaimed " Ah, I suppose you have come to take me away for killing that man." This morning he led. tlie police to the spot where ho had hid the kuife, under a log close to the spot where the deed was committed. He is supposed to be mad. He was in a lunatic asylum some time ago.
