The third anniversary of the formation of the Coromandel Kifle Corps was celebrated by a ball and supper, on W ednesduy evening last, at the drill-shed, which was very taste* fully decorated for the occasion with evergreens and flowers. _ Papakurais no longer without local authority, the Towns Districts Act, ISSi, having been brought into force on the.lTth August, 18S2. The number of commissioners has been fixed at five. The nomination of commissioners will take place at the Papakura Hall, on Tuesday, sth September, and the election, if necessary, on the 13th September at the same placa. The commissioners will hold office for two years. Our Waipu Correspondent writes :—lt devolves on me tin's week to record the death of two of tho oldest residents of this district. They both attained an extreme old age. The first in order is Mr. Donald McMillan, who expired at his son's residence. North Branch, on Sunday evening, the 22nd inst., at the very ripe age of 101 years. He retained hi 3 faculties unimpaired to tho last, and passed away quietly without any apparent failing health. The deceased gentleman was born in the Island of Mull, one of the western islands of Scotland. He emigrated to Cape Breton, North America, in the early part of thi3 century, where he established a comfortable home for himself and family. Being induced to come to New Zealand by the many glowing accounts he received of its ex. cellent climate, and it many other attractions as a field of.enterprise, he arrived at Auckland in 1557, accompanied by his three sons and their families He leaves five sons here, and one at Auckland, with large families, all in comfortable circumstances. Mrs. McGregor, relict of the late Mr. John McGregor, joined the great, majority on Thursday evening, at the advanced aga of SG years. She died at the residence of Mr. William McDonald. The deceased lady was remarkably active for a person of her great age. Not many . weeks ago our correspondent met the old lady trudging her way through mud and mire to a granddaughter's house, for the purpose of visiting a sick child, her own great-grand-child. The decear.ed._was born in the island of Lewes, and emigrated to Cape Breton early in the present century, but finnlly arrived in New Zealand in 1857, and settled here the samo year.
