[BY TELEGRAPH. —rPRESS ASSOCIATION.] CnBiSTCHURCir, Thursday. An important case was heard at the Ainberiy R.M. Court to-day, The Kowai Road Board sued a number of ratepayers for '. damage done by taking up some pipes laid down by the Board. On behalf of the defendants, it was claimed that the pipes were of no service, and conveyed water uphill, and in a contrary direction to that which it had been carried for years; and although they had several times petitioned the Board to reconsider their action, no notice was taken of it; Judgment was given for the Board, and the ratepayers were fined Is and costs. The magistrate remarked that the defendants had no right to take the law in their own hands, as they had a remedy in another way. Still/--he recommended the Board to consider their action.
