FEVER CASES IN THE CITY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The leading article in your last issue on the necessity of cleanliness as a preventive against the spread of epidemics is very valuable advice, and I sincerely hope that good may result from it. The -weak point in the article referred to seems to me to be whers you suggest that the cure for it is the city wai«r supply to be extended to Parnell, sikl bstfcer drainage. I admit that thess may to ;ome extent check the ravages of the diaeas':, but will not altogether effect a cure unless the borough authorities enforce cleanliness ia the surroundings of each dwelling. This is best proved by the fact that the city, notwithstanding its magnificent water supply, and comparatively good drainage, has within its small area a very large number of fever cases. I am informed that at the last meeting of the board a report was on the table from the Health Officer to the effect that since the Ist of January to 23rd February nineteen eases of fever had been reported in the borough. It is only fair to expect that there were other cases that were not reported, so that I think you will agree with me in urging upon the city authorities to thoroughly investigate the causer; for this state of things, and at once, if possible, provide the remedy.—l am, &c., Convalescent.
