I [BY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. I Wellington, Thursday. ! THE QUARTER'S ACCOUNTS. i Ths quarter's accounts arc just made up. The ordinary revenue for the quarter, which ended 31st ult., amounted to £1,101,349, including Customs, £366,235; railways, £205,512 ; stamps, £36,390; postal, £34,398 j telegraphic, £19,345; beer duty, £17,924 ; judicial, £16,679; depasturing licenses, £36,927. The expenditure was £782,355, riz., £352,624, permanent appropriation; £429,544, annual appropriation; £225 for services not provided for. The land fund shows receipts of £177,835, and expenditure £119,148. Of the public works fund for the quarter, the expenditure was £331,289, including £49,500 for the redemption of debentures. Local bodies accounts receipts, £23,322, including license fees, £1756; gold'fields revenue, £5475; gold duty, £9395. Expenditure, £17,113. Balance in hand, £11,209. AVIREMU KINGI. The celebrated Waitara chief Wiremu Kingi, whose death is recorded by to-day's telegrams, was a man through whose influence the first native war, that of IS6O was begun in New Zealand. Wiremu Kingi has lived for many years in peaceful seclusion. This the Europeans may possibly have been in some degree indebted to his excessive corpulence, which indisposed him to indulga in martial feats. He mu3t not be confounded with Wiremu Kingi Matahaka, who was among the late prisoners. The full name of the chief just deceased was Wiremu Kingi Te Rangitake. MINISTERIAL MEETING. A long meeting of the Cabinet was held this, afternoon, at which a considerable amount of important business was transacted. Particulars have not transpired.
