Intending competitors for the bonus offered by the directors of the Thames River Steam Navigation Company for designs of a new boat, can now be furnished with particulars of the same at the office of Messrs. Ehrenfried Bros., Lower Queen-street. The s.s. Oreti ie announced to leave for Gisborne and Napier on Monday. The Union S.S. Co.'s s.s. TeAuaa maybe expected from Melbourne, via Southern ports about 8 o'clock to-night. The Union S.S. Co.'s s.s. Taiaroa is expected to arrive from the South on Saturday morning. She calls at Oamaru, Napier, Gisbome, and Tauranga en route. The schooner Edith sailed for Rirotonga yesterday forenoon. The brig Fawn arrived at Newcastle from Auckland on September 29. The brig Wild Wave has again been in troubled waters. Sho left Kaipara on the 10th ult. for Sydney, and had easterly winds until the 23rd, when a very heavy K ale set in from the eastward, with high sea and much rain, blowing at hurricane force for 14 hours, tho heavy seas making a clean breach over the vessel, washing about SOOO feet of timber off the deck, besides the water tank and other movables. The pumps were sounded, and three feet of water was found to be in the hold. Light southerly winds prevailed thence until the 27th, when the wind hauled to the northward, and continued to arrival, on the 28th. The barqaentine Falcon proceeds to Kaipara to load for Melbourne about tho end of this week. According to the European Mail the Wellington, 1246 tuns, is on tho berth at London for this port. The ship May Queen cleared at London for this port on August 25. The Xew Zealand Shipping Co.'a Loch Urr, which sailed Irom London, on August 20, for Auckland, has the following steerage passengers on board :—John Darecourt, Jane Derecourt, Thomas Derecourt, Frederick Derecourt, Harry Derecourt, John Darecourt, Ernesc Dereeourt, Herbert Green, Ellen Green, Beatrice Greon, Edward J. Smith, John Lock, Mary McMurra, Margaret McMurra, Margaret Byrne, Michael Byrne, Sarah Swindails, Emily Swindails, Herbert Swindails, and Noah Swindails. The Waimate, New Zealand Shipping Company's vessel, loading at No. 2 Jetty, South West India Dock, London, for Canterbury, oaught fire on August 24; the after-cabin on the main deck and contente were damaged by fire and water, and the contents of the saloon 'by smoke and water. The torjDAge loading on the berth at London on August 25, for India, China, aad the Cape of Good Hope, amounted to 34,510 tons ; and for Australia and New Zealand, to 59,879 tons.

At London, on August 26, the demand for prompt tonnage from the Bast was well maintained, and exceptionally good rates were being paid for immediate loading. There was alio considerable animation in San Francisco and Portland freights, owing to the important rise in Home grain markets, consequent upon the unseasonable weather. Messrs. Staley, Radford, and Co., quote rates from London to Auckland : Rough measurement, 35i; fine, 40s; liquids, 555; weight, 30s ; c«meut, 5i per cisk ; beer, 10d per dozen ; salt, 30s.
