IRISH BARONET CHARGED WITH FORGERY.
At the Dublin, Police Court recently, Sir Walter George Nugent, Bart., and late captain in thc"~33rd Foot, of Donore, County Westmeath, was charged before.Mr: Woodlock, with having uttered a bill of exchange for i'ICOO, the bill purporting to be accepted by George Caddell, deputy-lieutenant, residing at BalbnVg.ii), Co. Dublin. Accused was arrested on a warrant.. - Another warrant is at present in the hands of the police for the apprehension of Lady Maria Nugent, his wife, and daughter of the late Mr. O'Farrell, a Privy Councillor. The prosecution was at the instance if the Royal Bank. The defendant , had, it appeared, obtained the money in conjunction with his wife. He said that .it was all owing to family affairs, and his wife had been guilty of getting by the same means a sum of £20,000 from the National Bank, which bank now held a mortgage upon his estate. , He further alleged that tbe promissory note was drawn by her unknown tp hitn. The bank authorities allege that the promissory note is in the handwriting-' of the accused, and that the cheques- drawn upon the strength of it are in the handwriting of the accused as well as his wife. The prisoner was remanded. . ,
