An American lion-tamer, named Loncel, was exhibiting at the Courtney Circus, New York. Hu was preparing to leave the tiger's cage, when Ms foot slipped and he fell; one ot the tigers instantly seized him, and in five minutes the body was literally torn to pieces. Some of the spectators had revolvers, and they fired upon the animal, killing him, and the body of Lengel was withdrawn. The remaining tiger then got aroused, and seized the body of his late companion, and began I tearin" it with teeth and claws. The wild horror of the whole scene is unparalleled in exhibition life.
The obituary of the Times one day recently contained a record of the deaths of thirteen persons —viz., ten ladies and three gentlemen, whose united ages amounted to 1,105 years, giving an average of exactly eightyfive years to each. The oldest was a lady who had reached the great age of ninetytwo ; the youngest lady was eighty-one. O£ the gentlemen, the oldest was ninety, and the youngest eighty-one years of age.
