BOAT RACING.
The cutters, which we mentioned in last issue as lying off Tiritiri, obtained a nice -breeze about 8 o'clock, mainly from the south, which enabled them to work up against the ebb tide. The Gannet was the first to arrive at ah. - 32m. 14s. a.m., the Henry next at sh. 51m. 205., the Euphemia at Oh. 26m., and the Mahurangi some time afterward. A race for open boats not exceeding 20ft. in length will take place at 1.30 o'clock this , afternoon. The course tixeel is from the end of the Queen-street Wharf, round the Daphne's mooring, thence round the buoy on the Sandspit at the North Head, thence round the Daphne's moorings, thence round the coal-hulk, thence to starting point, and twice round. The race will be sailed under the Auckland Regatta Club's rules, with this exception, that boats over size, according to rule 29, are to be eligible, but to allow time according to the I'onsonby rules. The stakes are £1 per boat, and if six start the second boat will save its stakes. The following boats have already entered :—Kunice, green, with yellow border; Witch, white; Observer, white burgee, with red border; Hattio May, blue ; Madgie, white, with St. George's Cross ; Imp, red and blue. A sailing race for H2O, between the yachts Toy and Jessie Logan,-also takes place thie afternoon, the course being round the Drunken Bay buoy. A gentleman, who evidently believes that there is capacity in the Thames crew, which rowed in the outiigger and inrigger races on Ifonday, that only requires developing,-* professea that he is willing to contribute £20 , towards giving them j month or two's training under Mr. Gordon, and he is confident that neither of the other crews would then see them in any race. He thinks that the amount requisite could easily be obtained at the Thames. The White brothers have returned to Mernry Bay. -.COMPLETING THE REGATTA. Some postponed races take place this afternoon. The first starts at 2 o'clock, and is sailing-boats. The course except that the Sijiua MaKna hulk will be substituted for the off Stokes* Point. The competi- ' tors are :—l, Coy;' , 2, Imp (Perrot's); 3, Zip; 4Olga. The second race starts a i o'clock, and will lie for feur-oared inrigger gigs, manned by members of rowing clubs under 21 years. The entries are :—l,l'onsonby crew : Tom Halstead (stroke), W. Dignan, W. Farquhar, and F. Cooper. 2, North Shore crew: Webster (stroke), Brown, Hammond, Reid, and Bailey (eoxswain). 3, Auckland crew : K. Yates (stroke), E, Woods, Massey, \on -Stunner, and Cashell (coxswain). The scullers'race takes place at 4-30 p.m., and the entries are':—l, A. A. Auckland j 2, T. D. Halstead, Ponsonby; 3, T. ' Henderson, jun., Auckland ; 4, H. D. Morpeth, Ponsonby. , The courses for the rowing races will be iived by the committee when the weather Jias been ascertained in the morning.
