THE WELLINGTON RACES.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday. For the Wellington Races, s>ecoiid day, the weather was fine. About SOO were on the tourse. The stoppage of all games made the course dull. Hare Park Stakes. — R.-mduielc, 1 ; Luna, 2; Mischief, 3. Badsworth also Trent to the post, but bolted and went the : oourse twice before the jockey could pull him up. On his return to the post Kandwick kicked out, and Blanche, who was riding "Badsworth, was kicked on the leg. The Jiorse was then taken back to the paddock. Luna had the best of the start, and held the . lead to the back of the course, when Mischief run into first place, Kandwick being close up. On entering the straight the latter came with a rush, and won rather easily by three lengths from Luna, who was a length ahead of Mischief. Time, 2miu. 16sec. Handicap Hurdles.—Clarence, 1 : Grey Jloimis, 2; Agent, 3. Raven and Eclipse also ran. Clarence, from his victory on the previous day, was eagerly sought after, and started at even money—3 to 1 against Momus, 5 to 1 against Agent. A capital start was made. On passing the stand the first time Clarence led with Momus second. The others tailed oft". At the second hurdle -Momus baulked, but got over at the second attempt. At the back of the course Raven went to the fore, Eclipse second, Clarence next, Agent lying last several lengths behind. This order was maintained until the back of the course on the final round, when Raven had a commanding lead, but fell at the next hurdle, and was thrown out of the race. Clarence now showed in front, and Grey Momus took the second place. A grand struggle ensued up the straight, Clarence winning by a length from Grey Momus, five lengths separating him and Agent. Time, 4min. 30sec. Hack Hurdles.—Hollowback and Taratahi started. The former won easily, Taratahi falling at the third hurdle. Racing Club Handicap.—Libeller, 1; Norseman, 2; Governor, 3. Luna and Dan also started. The betting -was even on .Libeller, Dan and Norseman being next in the order of betting. After one false start the horses were sent away. Governor was first to show in front, and led past the stand, with Norseman and Luna in close attendance, Libeller and Dan keeping some distance behind. At the turn, Libeller commenced ; to creep up to the leader, and r.t the back of the course all the five were in a cluster. Norseman now showed in front, with Governor and Libeller one length in the rear. Norseman was first to enter the straight, Governor lying second, but Libeller gallantly responding to the call from the jockey, came with a rush, and, after a severe struggle with Norseman, won cleverly by a neck, Governor being a length way. Time. 3mm. 13|sec. Ladies Petrse. — Billingsgate, 1; Miss Domett, 2. Only tvv-o started. The latter led until fifty y ards from home, when Billingsgate made his effort, and won bj:<t length. __ . - " ' CoNseLAlxo-v-SrXKES.—Dan, 1 ; Mischief, '2"f Cassevilanus jjn y) 3 Miechief led to the straight, when he was challenged by Dan, the latter winning by one length ; Mischief, second, apparently hard held. Time, lmin. 45sec. The totalisator was well patronised during the day.
