THE WADE.

There has been so much written from time to time against this district that it becomes a most pleasing task to reverse the picture, and write of its advancement. The outlay of the General Government in forming the East Coast Road, and the construction of bridges over every river and creek, even on to Warkworth, via Waiwera, has been the topic of many a letter during the past twelve months. The completion of the road right through was a long time deferred, but it is at length accomplished, and since the beginning of the year, and the contract of Messrs. Lord and Dodd, the mail coach runs three times a-week from Auckland, and vice versa from the Springs. The well-known care and urbanity of Mr. Lord, who drives the team himself, need no. comment, and although the steamer visits the Wade twice a-week, generally crowded with goods and passengers,' the traffic on the road' increases every day. To keep pace with this advancement, a new hotel has been erected by Mr. Maurice Kelly. .. It was designed by Mi*. Wi-igley, and built by Mr. ' Bell, of Auckland. This building, situated above the bridge in the centre of the township, is most pleasing and attractive. On the .ground floor it is 40 feet square. It is two stories high with an imposing balcony in front, and a verandah all round 10 feet deep. It has a double chimney, is painted a fine stone- ; colour,- and green roofed balcony and verandah,-and gives a fine effect .-is one approaches- the "township. The interior • contains fourteen rooms. It has public and private sitting rooms, six private bed rooms, and all the excra rooms of the best hotel requirements.'- Attached to the hotel is a four-stalled stable, and two fourroomed cottages now in course of building with 23 acres of land about to be laid out in gardens, orchards, and paddocks.. I believe the hotel will be formally opened this week or early the next by a grand entertainment as house warming.—[Own Correspondent,. February I.] .
