ST. MARK'S, REMUERA.
A laiige and very influential meeting of ,the congregation of this church was held yesterday at the parsonage, and presided over by the Ven. Archdeacon Pritt. The object of the meeting was to consider the best way of raising funds to discharge the liabilities which will be incurred by the acquisition of the new organ and the erection of a suitable chamber for it. The chamber is to have the form of a tower and spire, and about £1000 will be required to accomplish this object. Of this sum about £200 will be received from the sale of the present instrument, leaving about £800 to be raised. Some very liberal donations—two of £50 each, and one of much larger amount—were promised, and thesnbject was enteredin to with heartiness and genuine good taste, and a determination arrived at that the amount required should be raised by subscriptions .'rather than by holding a bazaar. We have no doubt the unity and good feeling which prevails in the district will be the means of producing the desired result, and that judging from the remarks made yesterday the response will be most liberal and substantial. The additional chamber, tower, and spire will add very much to the external appearance of the church, and by dispensing with the present organ chamber forty extra sittings will be gained. These last are much needed, as the demand cannot be supplied.
