CORRESPONDENCE CONDENSED.
The Identity.—We hare at present on our table two letters on the identity of the British people with the Lost Tribes, which we must decline to insert. The subject of prophesy no doubt absorbs the minds of those who devote themselves to this most useless of all studies, but it is an aversion to those who do not, and these happily are the majority of our readers. Training of Teachers.—On this subject, apropos of the Training College in Welleßley-street, " Waiuku," suggests that a series of examination papers for teachers be drawn up by the examiners of the JN ew Zealand University, so that the honour of training young New Zealand teachers be afterwards given to those who acquit themselves most worthily. There ought, he insists, to be a present test. " Maintien " sayß that the Board must take into consideration the fact that the great majority of the pupil teachers are females, and require to be placed with a lady of culture and refined manners, whose influence woald be beneficial in many respects.
