CRICKET.

I WEST END V. UNITED C.C. It is a rather rare occurrence in the annals of Auckland cricket to find a club making anything of a stand against the United, which ia nuppoßed to be composed of the most practical cricketers in the city, yet this was to be found on Saturday last on the Domain Ground in the match, between the above club 3, notwithstanding the fact that the West End played a weaker team than nsual. It cannot be doubted that there is excellent cricket material in the West End, which merely reau-res practice on the part of each indiviiluil member to render it a most formidable antagonist. So far as organisation is concerned, it is one oE the beat appointed clubs. In the field each member makes it his duty to obey his captain, and consequently a united team can always be placed on the field. The lacking of unity, needs hardly to be said, is inimical to the best interests of any club, and which, unfortunately, is to be seen in uot a few clubs. Although the match on Saturday resulted in a draw, yet, as it will be seen from the subjoined scores, the West Knd, if t'me permitted, had a very fair chance of pul ing it off. It would be invidious to particularise the play of any individual member, as all strenuously strove to conduce to the success of his club. The scores are as follow :— UNITED. WES P END.
