SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE.
Our Mahurangi correspondent writes that for some time past the necessity of having a school of agriculture ostablishe 1 in tho yorth has occupied a good share of public attention. This interest has betii increased since the last visit of Mr. H. T. Kemp, li.M , to this district;. This visit was on Friday la3t. After the business of the Court was over, Mr. Kemp iut-rviowed the chairman of the County Council (Mr. H. Palmer) and other gentlemen, in reference to the establishment of Each a school of agriculture, iu which for several years Mr. Ktmp has taken a lively interest. He dwelt much on th ; culture, as a commencement, of the .'live ami the castor oil pUuts, the latter thriving well iu the Nort'i. The site for the school suggested is a section of 370 acres, known a3 the College Lake, North Shore, origii.ally granted to the Kormn Catholic Hishop of Auckland as a school, but has long been closed. If the chairmen and members of the Northern founty Councils could see their way to pur chase the freehold of this section, it would indeed become in this form a boon to the people. The Government might al-:o bu asked to endow achr.irof chemi-itry attached to it. Much interest was taken, and wishes for its entire success expresse I. It was also stated that one of tho farms immediately a ij >ining the above section coulJb:; obtained, ns its owner was intending to return to the old country as aoon as ho could get his New Zealand property disposed of at reasonable rate- 0 .
